All About Yacht-Charters – It is Easy to Go Sailing in the Worlds Most Exotic Locations

A yacht charter is probably the most exciting and adventurous vacation you can take. You can choose any number of beautiful places to visit in the world, choose the time of year that offers the best winds, sunshine or any other criteria, then you can start the process of finding a yacht-rental company that has the right yacht-rental at the right price to suit your budget.

Finding the right yacht charter company isn’t always easy and there are so many. You can always go on a recommendation but with so many charter destinations and yacht-charters companies it’s not always easy. There are some very large companies such as The Moorings with big fleets of new boats, and with good maintenance regimes and rapid support when things go wrong. Many smaller one many companies may have old and tired boats but also be much cheaper, so budget is important. You can also choose private-yacht-charters.

How Do You Choose the Right Charter Yacht?

Size is everything! The bigger you go the more expensive it gets! Don’t get a boat that is above your real needs unless you have the money and if so go for it. In most cases a 34-36 foot boat is fine for a couple, I lived aboard a 35 yacht for a few years and went a lot of places, and these days a Beneteau 36 is a very spacious and comfortable boat to spend a week or two on. If you are 2 or 3 couples or perhaps with some family then 38 to 40 foot is better and larger groups need more room. One rule of thumb in yacht-rentals is one bathroom for each couple.

Choosing the right extras is also important, but it also makes yacht-charters more expensive. Many companies package most things into a charter yacht as the market is very competitive. Again it is about budget and personal requirements. Typical options are dingy outboard (I found rowing quite okay myself), snorkeling and dive equipment, entertainment systems (DVD, CD etc), refrigeration, hot water and so on.

Always read the charter fine print, and read before you book. Check out the cancellation policies, payment terms, whether they are a small fly by night operator or a company who will be waiting there with a decent boat when you arrive off the plane. All you need to know about yacht-charters is here!
